Bring Essential Oral-Care Supplies to Your Community

Host an Oral Hygiene Drive at your school, dental office, workplace, faith-based organization, or community group. Each drive helps Project OpenWide collect the supplies needed to assemble hygiene kits for children and families who may not have reliable access to basic dental-care products.

You do not need to live near Project OpenWide to participate. Remote organizers may collect supplies within their own school or community and donate them directly to an approved local recipient, such as a shelter, nonprofit organization, community center, school, or outreach program.

Organizers located near Project OpenWide may also arrange to donate their collected supplies to our team for use in oral hygiene kits, school programs, nonprofit partnerships, and community outreach events.

What is an Oral Hygiene Drive?

An Oral Hygiene Drive is a community-led collection of new dental-care supplies. Organizers choose a location and collection period, promote the drive to their community, and gather items that can be used in Project OpenWide’s outreach programs.

Unlike a general donation drive, every item collected supports a specific oral-health purpose. Donations are combined with educational resources and encouraging handwritten notes to create kits that help recipients begin or maintain a healthier daily routine.

What We
Collect

Our greatest needs are new, unopened toothbrushes, toothpaste, and individually packaged dental floss. We welcome both child- and adult-sized products so kits can be prepared for different age groups and community settings.

Soft-bristled toothbrushes and standard fluoride toothpaste are preferred. Travel-sized products are useful for compact kits, while full-sized products may be used for family distributions or longer-term support. Additional oral-care products should be approved by Project OpenWide before they are collected.

All donated items must be unused, unopened, and within their expiration dates.

Where Your Donations
Can Go

Organizers may choose to donate their collected supplies through Project OpenWide or directly within their own community. Both options help essential oral-care products reach children, families, and individuals who may not have reliable access to them.

Organizers located near Project OpenWide may arrange to transfer their donations to our team. These supplies may be used in oral hygiene kits distributed through school presentations, nonprofit partnerships, community events, clinics, shelters, and other outreach programs.

Remote organizers may donate their supplies directly to an approved organization in their area, such as a shelter, school, community center, food pantry, nonprofit, or family-support program. This allows volunteers to create an impact in their own communities without needing to ship donations to Project OpenWide.

Before donating locally, organizers should confirm that the recipient accepts new oral-care products and submit the organization for approval. After the donation is completed, organizers may be asked to provide photos, a final item count, and confirmation from the receiving organization.

How It Works:

Register Your Drive

Begin by completing the Oral Hygiene Drive registration form. Tell us where you plan to host the drive, how long it will run, what items you hope to collect, and whether you plan to donate locally or through Project OpenWide.

Choose a Local Recipient

Remote organizers may select a school, shelter, nonprofit, community center, food pantry, or other organization in their area. Before beginning the drive, confirm that the organization accepts new oral-care products and submit the recipient for approval.

Organizers near Project OpenWide may instead choose to transfer their donations to our team for use in future hygiene-kit projects and outreach programs.

Set Up and Promote Your Drive

Choose a visible collection location and establish a clear start and end date. Promote the drive through school announcements, social media, flyers, newsletters, email, or word of mouth.

Project OpenWide may provide approved wording and promotional materials to help explain what to donate and how the supplies will support the community.

Collect and Organize the Supplies

Collect only new, unopened, and unexpired oral-care products. Keep all donations clean and dry throughout the drive.

At the end of the collection period, separate the items by category and record the number of toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, floss containers, and other approved products received.

Complete the Donation

Deliver the collected supplies directly to your approved local recipient or coordinate a transfer to Project OpenWide. Remote organizers are not required to ship their donations to our team.

Report Your Impact

After the donation is completed, submit the final item count, photos of the collection, and confirmation that the supplies were received. This allows Project OpenWide to document your impact, recognize your contribution, and maintain accurate outreach records.
